Frisk blinked his eyes open and saw a slice of pepperoni pizza staring up at him. Frisk looked beyond the food to see Connie with a nervous expression.

“What’s wrong, Connie?” Frisk asked.

“You were muttering something earlier, I was kind of worried.” Connie picked up her pizza and began to chow down.

“Oh… Sorry… I just had a terrible flashback…” Frisk said softly, eating his pizza.

“A flashback? About what?” Connie set her slice back on her plate and leaned into the conversation.

“It’s pretty frightening stuff, Connie.” He sighed. “But… Do you really wanna know?”

Connie frantically nodded her head. “Yes, tell me!”
_______

Steven walked past the wide pile of leaves and saw another fork in the road. He looked to the left fork and saw a black, dead tree, but behind it was a large house. He was about to turn left, when there was a glimmer out of the corner of his eye.

He turned his head and looked at the path straight ahead. He saw a floating, glowing heart, similar to his, but it was sky blue. The heart stood still for a minute, and then began to move down the path ahead, with Steven in hot pursuit.

“Wait! Wait a minute!” Steven called out as he ran, turned the corner and went through another archway. He stopped when he noticed there was only a balcony. He walked closer to the edge of the balcony and looked toward the giant city beneath.

“Wow. I didn’t know these ruins were so huge.” Steven marveled at the sight. He then heard an echoing whimper to his left. He looked and only saw a Toy Knife. But something about this knife was odd. He walked over to it, and picked it up, admiring the details of the toy. But, the admiration didn’t last long because he began to notice that there was a change in the air.

He turned around and saw the sky blue heart floating behind him. It began glowing, and swirled around him, the ribbon and knife also began to glow. Steven covered his eyes with his arms and screamed. Soon, he opened his eyes and looked to see that he was in darkness. He walked forward reluctantly, and noticed 6 pillars put in a hexagon formation, all of them different colors. He walked into the middle of them, and noticed a monitor above. He jumped as the monitor began showing static, and then a picture of a frightened Frisk.

“F-Frisk?” Steven stepped toward the monitor, and began to hear eerie music. But then, he saw a different pillar pop up in front of the monitor. Steven gathered up courage and cautiously step to the pillar, which had a glowing red-tinted window. As he peered in, the music kept getting scarier, he saw a terrible silhouette float down.

Suddenly a monitor was made out, it had a familiar face at first, but then the eye slits opened to a pair of bloodshot, green eyes, followed by the most soul piercing maniacal laughter he had ever heard. What Steven saw made him scream and jump away from the red pillar.

Connie’s eyes were wide with horror at what she heard. “You’ve died how many times?”

“Too many to remember… But every time I came back, I was met with the same creature who killed me…” Frisk frowned, balling his fist up. “The flower became something else…”

Steven looked back at the monitor, and saw Frisk getting attacked by razor flowers, bugs, and seeds. He felt so powerless at not being able to help Frisk in some way, but, he then saw the Cyan Pillar glowing a bit, revealing the heart from earlier. Steven ran over to the pillar, and looked around, he saw the toy knife glowing when it went closer to the heart. Something was telling him that it needed the knife. With knife in hand, he ushered it to the heart, both of them fusing together. Suddenly an alarm sounded, a monitor appeared above the cyan pillar, static sounded, and then it showed Frisk surrounded by giant spinning knives.

“No Frisk! Be careful!” He called out to him, but there was no reaction from Frisk. Steven then noticed that the heart pulsated light. The same light resonated from the ribbon around his wrist. He heard the same voice inside of him about the ribbon as well, so he gave the ribbon to the heart, which glowed brighter. Back on the monitor, he saw Frisk eluding the knives, then saw a huge sign that said ACT. Frisk went to the sign and called out for help. The heart went into the pillar and turned it from black to all the way sky blue. Steven saw on the monitor that the white knives had turned to green bandages, which healed Frisk’s injuries of the previous attacks.

But suddenly, the monitors stopped playing anything. He heard a familiar song play around him as he saw the cyan heart float down to the middle, and glowed brightly, revealing a young girl with overalls, a red ribbon in her hair, and the handle of the toy knife in her pocket. She smiled at Steven and ran over to him.

“Thank you, you saved my soul.” She said, grinning.

“Umm, you’re welcome. How did I save you?” He asked.

“You brought the pieces of my memories back.” She giggled, pointing to her ribbon “The good… And the bad.” She then took out her toy knife.

“You died here?” Steven teared up.

“We all did. All seven of us. Well, there’s only six of us here, but the seventh… was reincarnated after leaving…” She looked at the black pillar with the red heart.

“Wait… Frisk died here?”

“We knew her by another name, but she and Frisk had the same color soul; Red, the color of Determination. That’s what kept them alive all throughout their journey.”

“Who are you?”

“My name is Rachel, my soul is Cyan, the color of Patience.” She smiled, “You have a long journey ahead of you. Please, if you want this world’s pain and suffering to end, you have to set all six of us free.”

“I don’t know if I can…”

“You can, Steven. I believe in you. Like he believed in her.” Rachel began to fade away.

“W-What? Wait a minute, who’s ‘he’? Frisk? And who’s ‘her’?!” Steven had so many questions to ask.

“He’s the same person who’s voice you’ve been dreaming about.”

Steven gasped as he heard a voice around them.

“Don’t worry… this is just a bad dream…” It began so soft and gentle, “And it’s only gonna get worse…” And then the voice turned into Flowey’s voice. Then, as Flowey’s laughter began to fill the darkness, Steven began to fall down faster, and faster, he was then surrounded by the alternating letters of “H” and “A”. He kept falling and screaming, hearing the laughter ringing in his ears, until he blacked out.

Connie’s eyes showed true horror as Frisk finished his story about what happened before he left the underground. She thought she had experienced true horror when she met with one of those fusion monsters, but it seems Frisk was a very good storyteller. She was even more terrified.

“W-Wow… A-And Steven might have to face that?” Connie asked.

Frisk nodded and looked out to the window. “But for now… he’s in the ruins, he’ll be fine for a while… I wonder… since he reset the world, I wonder if he’ll be able to give everyone a happy ending…” Frisk said while staring out at the beach.

Connie frowned and tilted her head. But then she smiled and looked up at Frisk. “Umm… you didn’t tell me about the friends you made over there, can we talk about them?”

Frisk turned his head back to Connie, and then smiled. “Well, I guess I should start with someone very near and dear to my heart…” Frisk started, twiddling his thumbs shyly, “She’s actually my mother, well, she acts more like a mother to me than my real mother ever did… Her name’s Toriel.”
_____

As soon as Steven hit the bottom of the endless pit of laughter, he woke up in a cold sweat. He panted as he felt his chest and face frantically, which made in calm down eventually. He then took a look at his surroundings, he was in a dimly lit room, in a comfy bed. He closed his eyes and lifted his shirt, and his gem began to emit pink light, lighting up the room. He saw a bunch of plush up against the wall on the left side of the bed, and on the right side, was a wardrobe, bookshelf, a toy chest, and a lamp all overlooking a rug.

He yawned a bit and looked at the rug, and noticed a piece of pie just waiting for him in the middle of the rug. He got up, put his flip-flops back on, and picked the piece of pie up. He took a single bite out of it, and he was in bliss, the butterscotch and the cinnamon were very well married together. He then put it into a tiny bubble, and put it in his cheeseburger backpack.

Soon, he decided to walk out of the room and see where he was. Out into the hallway, and he walked through the foyer, and noticed the staircase leading to the basement. But he kept on walking into the living room and saw Toriel reading a book by the fireplace.

“O-Oh! Toriel!” Steven smiled and ran over to her, Toriel looked up from her book and sighed in joy and relief.

“Oh Steven! Thank goodness, you’re doing well,” Toriel hugged Steven and put him down, “I was going to call your phone, but then I saw you at the base of the tree outside of my house, passed out, and I thought the worst.”

“Oh… Hehe, well I’m doing fine, Toriel, I was having a scary dream, actually…” Steven sat down in front of Toriel.

“Oh no, my child, would like to talk about it?”

“N-No, I’m fine, it was… Actually… I was wondering… Do you know someone by the name of Rachel?”

Toriel’s eyes widened and her face became slightly shocked at the mention of that name. She looked down, but then tried to change the subject.

“U-Umm, how about some snail facts?” She unsubtly mentioned, “Did you know that snails really like encouragement? It boosts their self-esteem and makes them better at the task at hand.”

But this only made Steven more curious. “Toriel… I saw there was a ribbon and toy knife that belonged to her… She told me in my dream.”

Toriel’s eyes only grew sadder at his words, she frowned as she closed the book. “… I do know Rachel… she was the second human to fall down into the Underground… she just wanted to go home, but I kept telling her, that she couldn’t… Not without a bunch of peril along the way…”

Steven blinked and got up. “What happened to her? And how can I leave this place?!” He asked, I’m trying to get back to my friends and family, please!”

Toriel frowned and got up. “Excuse me, there’s something I need to tend to…” She said as she walked out of the living room. Steven watched as she left the room, getting on his feet, putting his backpack on, and following her intently.
